Google Pay will introduce support for Aadhaar-based authentication to enable Unified Payments Interface (UPI), the company announced Tuesday. A popular payment app now allows a user to set his UPI PIN without a debit card. A user who wants to register for Google Pay using his Aadhaar number from UPI must register using the same number registered with both UIDAI and the bank. The company says it does not store a user’s girlfriend’s Aadhaar number as part of the verification process.
According to Google, the new Aadhaar-based system is designed to authenticate users when logging into his UPI without a debit card. To initiate the authentication process, users must enter the first 6 digits of their Aadhaar number. The company said these figures will be sent to UIDAI via the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) where they will be verified.
According to the NPCI website, 22 banks currently support user authentication with Aadhaar, and Google says more banks will add support for the feature “soon.”
To complete the process, the user must ensure that her bank account and her Aadhaar number are linked. Also, in order to successfully sign up for UPI with Google Pay, he must sign up for UPI using the same number that is registered with the bank and his UIDAI. The user then receives a one-time password (OTP) from the bank and UIDAI, which is used to complete the authentication process. The user will then be able to set her UPI PIN and start sending and receiving money via Google Pay. According to Google, the user’s girlfriend’s Aadhaar number will only be passed on to his NPCI and will not be stored by the company.
Last month, Google launched UPI payment support for RuPay cardholders of eight domestic banks. According to Google, bank account holders of Axis Bank, Baroda Bank, Kanara Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank and Union Bank of India can link their RuPay cards to Google Pay Make UPI payments. .
