During activity, the agency seizes approximately 2.39 crore in cash The Central Bureau of Investigation has arresteda senior official of the Railway Engineering Service, Mahendra Singh Chauhan, and four others on the accusation ofa private contractor collecting bribes. During the operation, the agency confiscated about ~2.39 crore in cash. The 1985 batch official was posted at Assam's Maligaon as the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) in Construction-II of the North East Frontier Railway unit. The other arrestees are Deputy Chief Engineer Hem Chand Borah; Assistant Executive Engineer Laxmi Kant Verma; Bhupendra Rawat, an ABCI Infrastructures Private Limited employee based in Guwahati; and Indra Singh, a relative of the CAO. All the accused are being taken to Delhi on remand for transit. The CAO allegedly requested ~1 crore from the director of the company. When the CBI officials arrested them on Sunday, the cash was given by the company employee at his relative's Dehradun residence. The money was confiscated as well. Three others were subsequently convicted. "On the premises of the Deputy Chief Engineer and the Assistant Executive Engineer, 18.5 lakh and 6.5 lakh were found during searches. In addition to the suspected bribe sum of 1 crore, 60 lakh was confiscated in Dehradun and 54 lakh from the Guwahati premises of the CAO.
